Description

Hello people, just sharing some illustrations I made for a CD case, a homework project for my product design class

For this CD, I made a recopillation of Mexican Rock Hits, so for the overall design I wanted to mix mexican symbols with rock culture.

This are simple pencil sketches which I scanned and then colored in photshop

The first one is a mix between the mexican flag, the national coat of arms and a hand making the iconical horns, the phrase "Aguila o Sol"(eagle or sun) is the name of the album, based on the phrase used when a coin is toss here in mexico, as one side has the mexican coat of arms with an eagles, and the other side has the aztec calendar or solar stone

The second illustration is a mix between the iconical image of the famous Luchador "El Santo" and the image of the Sacred Heart. I kept El Santo in black and white as all his movies where in black en white, adding color only to the heart and the Altar behind him. "Cancionero" is the spanish translation for Chansonnier.

The third illustration mixes the image of a "Charro" or "Mariachi" with a skeleton, mostly based in the mexican legend of "El Charro Negro" a folk tale about a demonic Charro who made a bargain with a man, in which he exchanged his sons for fortune until he died and the charro came for his own soul. The phrase "La vida no vale nada" (life is worthless) is part of the lyrics of a very reknonwed songs here in Mexico, "Camino de Guanajuato" (Guanajuato's Road), sang by Jose Alfredo Jimenez

Well, hope you like it and see you around
